TL;DR

Challenge

IT infrastructure teams managing VMware Cloud Foundation had no way to measure or track the environmental impact of their private cloud operations. Sustainability data was scattered, inaccessible, and disconnected from the workflows where infrastructure decisions were made.

Constraints

The solution had to integrate within the existing VCF Operations platform without requiring changes to underlying infrastructure tooling, while surfacing sustainability metrics that were actionable — not just decorative.

Success Metrics

Give infrastructure teams a quantified Green Score they could track over time, surface actionable recommendations for carbon reduction, and align the product with enterprise ESG reporting requirements.

Design Impact

A unified Green Score dashboard with carbon footprint metrics, actionable recommendations, and benchmarking tools transformed sustainability from an invisible byproduct into a measurable, improvable metric for infrastructure teams.
